Kerry P. Duncan, D.Min., AAPC, ACPE, is Associate Director of Covenant Counseling & Family Resource Center. Kerry attended the University of Wisconsin and earned his B.A. degree at the University of Georgia. He did graduate training at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, where he earned M.Div., Th.M., and D.Min. degrees. A Fellow with the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, Kerry is a Supervisor with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. Among his specialties is in-depth psychotherapy designed to help clients find the best in themselves, which they can use to overcome obstacles in their relationships with themselves, others, and God. Kerry is an ordained Minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA).
Joseph W. Whitwell, Th.D., AAPC, ACPE, AAMFT, LMFT #482, is Executive Director of Covenant Counseling & Family Resource Center. He graduated from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi with a B.A. degree, and continued his education at Emory University's Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, where he earned his B.D. and Th.D. degrees. A Diplomate with the American Association of Pastoral Counselors, Joe is a Supervisor with the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education and an Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. He is also licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in Georgia. Joe specializes in individual therapy for adults; couples and family therapy; individual and group therapy for adult survivors of sexual abuse; individual and group therapy for recovering alcoholics; and group therapy for adults dealing with a variety of emotional issues. Joe is an ordained Minister in the United Methodist Church, North Georgia Conference.
Andee Gay, M.S., LPC, is a Nationally Certified Counselor and licensed in the state of Georgia. She earned a B.F.A. degree from the University of Montevallo in Alabama, as well as a B.S. from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She received her Masters degree in Community Counseling from Georgia State University and a Diploma of Christian Counseling from the Psychological Studies Institute in Atlanta. She is a member of AACC - American Association of Christian Counselors and serves as a referral source for Focus on the Family. Andee's professional interests include issues such as relationships, family of origin difficulties, and infertility. She works with individuals, couples, and families as well as groups, and has a special affinity for adolescents. She has taught parenting and self-esteem seminars, as well as marriage workshops. She uses a variety of therapeutic techniques to help individuals achieve balance within themselves and their lives.
Robert Lanford, M.Div., AAPC, is an associate member of CC&FRC. Rev. Lanford received his B.S. degree from North Georgia College in Dahlonega, Georgia and his M. Div. degree from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. His Clinical Pastoral Education experience includes work at The City of Faith Medical and Research Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and as chaplain in the internal and behavioral medicine units of Northside Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. Rob's diverse experience includes both parish and clinical settings, serving congregations both large and small in Oklahoma and Georgia, work with Native Americans through the Indian Missionary Conference of the United Methodist Church, and work as clinical chaplain at Murphy-Harpst-Vashti Intermediate Residential Treatment Center for Severely Emotionally Disturbed Children in Cedartown, Georgia. He is an ordained elder in The United Methodist Church.
Rev. Lanford uses a family systems model of therapy in work with family, congregational, and organizational systems. Rob practices from a depth psychology model in his work with individuals and couples. He is particularly interested in helping young people, persons who have had toxic religious experiences, persons who have a non-christian spirituality, or those experiencing spirituality from diverse cultures. He has developed a visual spiritual assessment model for use by pastoral care givers with persons who perceive information in a more visual cognitive style. He has developed, with his wife Patti, an outdoor experiential Marriage Enrichment model based on Burrell and Phyllis Dinkins' "Two In A Canoe" paradigm. Rob is currently pursuing a Ph. D. in psychology at the Saybrook Graduate School and Research Center, studying the relation between creativity, spirituality, core personal issues, collaboration, and community.
Claire Horner, M.S., M.S., LPC, is nationally certified and state licensed professional counselor. She attended Auburn University to earn a B.S. degree in Rehabilitation Services. Assisting others in finding their strengths, talents, and passions led her to pursue a Masters in Professional Counseling at Georgia State University. Claire is presently a member of the AACC (American Association of Christian Counselors), the AGPS (Atlanta Group Psychotherapy Society), and the Georgia chapter of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association. In 2004, to enhance her approach to spiritual matters, she completed a Masters in Christian Psychological Studies from the Psychological Studies Institute in Atlanta, Georgia.
Claire has worked with men and women in a correctional facility with symptoms such as anxiety, abuse, mood disturbance, drug/alcohol/sexual addiction, post traumatic stress, and depression, among others. She presently co-leads a group with Joe Whitwell for women survivors of sexual abuse and works with: older teens, premarital or distressed couples, adults exploring a faith crisis, those trying to understand issues related to being an adult child of an alcoholic, or concerns such as life transitions, anxiety/depression, sexual identity, abuse and relationships.
The approach Claire uses in counseling stems from the following belief: “We are not bits and pieces that work separately, but a compilation of physical body, complex mind, emotional information center, relational motivations (or not), sexual energy, and spiritual glue that bring together these aspects of life. These systems break down during grief, trauma, life transitions, and other life experiences that create disturbing symptoms. The therapeutic process seeks to restore the way these aspects work together thereby reducing the symptoms, calming emotional storms, and providing choices for the future.”
Alisha Macauley is a staff associate at Covenant Counseling and
Family Resource Center . She received her B.A in Psychology and Criminal Justice from the
University of South Alabama and her Master of Science in Professional Counseling from
Georgia State University . She is a National Certified Counselor and is a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor.
Alisha has experience working in inpatient, outpatient and emergency settings, working with an array of mental illnesses and addictions. She has worked with adolescents and adults in individual and group settings.
Her interest is in working with ages 15 and up, dealing with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, grief, and other life issues.
Alisha believes that counseling is a collaborative relationship between the client and the therapist and she utilizes an integrative approach by pulling from different theoretical backgrounds. Her emphasis is in helping clients understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings and behavior.
